While some enjoy the slopes and cold temps for a winter vacation, others enjoy getting away from the blustery weather and heading where the sun always shines. Florida fits the bill. And there isn’t any other place in the US for a no-snow getaway to warm the season that is better than the most southerly point in the nation – Key West.
You can even reach this island by car! Just take Overseas Highway from Miami Beach to Florida’s Keys. Key West, even in the winter, maintains temps between 64 degrees and 80 degrees, making it one of the United States’ best winter destinations. If you’ve got a passion for the beach, sand, and sea, this is your island paradise.
You can visit Fort Zachary Taylor, Higgs Beach, or Dry Tortugas from here. Some of the activities offered include scuba diving, sailing, and snorkeling. You can even sail the seas in a boat with a glass bottom to check out the amazing sea life in the region. And when it’s time to relax, just spending some quality “me” time in the glorious sunshine is a great way to pass the time. There might not be a better escape from the winter blahs than Key West.
You’ll find art museums, antique shops, movie theaters, and several galleries – enough to occupy your time for days. Plus, if you’ve got a penchant for seafood, you’ll find none fresher than that in the Keys – think freshly caught lobster and shrimp and other seafood. As you eat, you can take in the live performances by street artists for entertainment.
And if that’s not enough to warm your spirit, just think – all your friends back home (and countless others across the nation!) are shivering, wrapped up like burritos in blankets. Yes, this is one of the most perfect destinations to spend your winter break.
